From agency life to freelancing: My shift as a Social Media & Content Creator
Why I Left Agency Life
After years working in an agency, I decided to take the leap into freelancing as a social media and content creator. The shift hasn’t been without challenges, but it’s been one of the most rewarding moves in my career.
At an agency, I gained structure, teamwork, and exposure to multiple brands at once. That experience gave me the foundation I needed: strategy, deadlines, and the ability to juggle different voices.
The Freedom (and Challenge) of Freelancing
I also felt the itch to create with more freedom, to build deeper relationships with clients, and to have ownership over the projects I poured myself into. Freelancing has opened the door to exactly that.
I now choose the brands and projects I align with, experiment with creative approaches, and set my own pace. Instead of just ticking off deliverables, I’m able to partner with clients on a deeper level.
The Many Hats of a Freelancer
Of course, freelancing comes with extra responsibility. I’m not only a creator, but also a business manager, accountant, and marketer. While it can be overwhelming, it’s also pushed me to grow in ways I never expected.
Flexibility, independence, and growth on my own terms have been worth every challenge. I’ve learned to trust my creative instincts, manage my time with intention, and embrace uncertainty as part of the process.
Advice for Making the Leap
If you’re thinking about making the jump from agency to freelance, my advice is simple: take the skills you’ve sharpened, trust your creative voice, and start small. Every client relationship and project becomes a stepping stone to building a career that feels authentic and sustainable.
Finding Balance in Freelance Life
Freelancing isn’t just about work—it’s about designing a lifestyle that works for you. For me, that means finding balance, keeping space for creativity, and remembering why I made the leap in the first place.
